During his 29-year career at FMC, Dr. Dalbir Sethi conceived and developed many patented technologies in the
field of Oxidation Chemistry as well as in the manufacture of Green Oxidants. He initiated the R&D program
on activated persulfate (FMC trade name Klozur) for environmental remediation and is the principal inventor of FMC's primary patents in this area.
The following key patents assigned to FMC and a recent poster presentation focus on the application of
environmentally friendly (green) oxidants for in-situ and ex-situ remediation of organic contaminants in soil,
groundwater, chemical and pharmaceutical process water and wastewater.
- US Patent 7,473,372: "Oxidation
of organic compounds".
This invention provides a novel method for treating contaminated soil, sediment, clay, rock and the like
(collectively referred to as "soil") containing volatile organic compounds, semi-volatile organic compounds,
pesticides and herbicides, as well as the treatment of contaminated groundwater, chemical process water and/or
wastewater. It uses one or more water-soluble oxidants in combination with a chelated transition metal catalyst.
- US Patent 7,524,141
This invention relates to the in-situ and ex-situ oxidation of organic compounds in a contaminated soil using persulfate and hydrogen peroxide.
- USPTO 10518248 & 10518249
These inventions provide activation of persulfate with NaOH and Heat for in-situ and ex-situ degradation of
organic compounds in the contaminated soil, groundwater, chemical process water and wastewater.
- Poster Presentation "Klozur Demand Test" at Battelle Conference, Monterey, California, 2008. (Principal
inventor, Dr. Sethi.)
Sodium Persulfate Oxidant demand Test was developed by Dr. Sethi (principal inventor) using multiple samples of
contaminated soils and groundwater. This test is being used by environmental testing labs for determination of Natural Oxidant Demand of the soils.
